Raw Carob 'Coffee'

Ingredients:
1 tsp carob powder, 2-4 mejdool dates (depending on how sweet you prefer it), 1 cup of water, 1/2 handful of cashew nuts (previously soaked for 2 hours and drained), 1 pinch of vanilla pod, cinnamon (to taste).

How to Make It:
Blend all the ingredients together and serve cold.
(To drink hot - just swap hot instead of cold water in the ingredients).

Enjoy! x

Interesting Fact: The pod has vitamin A, B vitamins, and several important minerals. They can be eaten directly by livestock, but we know carob mostly because the pods are ground into a flour that is a cocoa substitute.
Although this product has a slightly different taste than chocolate, it has only one-third the calories (total 1595 calories per pound), is virtually fat-free (chocolate is half fat), is rich in pectin, is nonallergenic, has abundant protein, and has no oxalic acid, which interferes with absorption of calcium.
Consequently, carob flour is widely used in health foods for chocolate-like flavouring.

The Herbal Remedy for Water Retention and a Flatter Belly Around Your Stomach

I love herbal remedies.
They are my favourite kind of self-love.
Here is a fabulous recipe for creating a home-made tea to tackle water retention and, in time, achieve a flatter belly around your stomach.
Drink this cold or hot depending on the season and your mood :)
Enjoy it over ice and with a straw for happy summer days!

If you press a finger on your stomach and then release, does the skin take a little while to go back to its natural colour? If the answer to this is yes, it may be a sign that you have water retention around your stomach.

Suggested Diet: FreeFrom, moderately high on lean protein, low on carbohydrate, and low on artificial added fats.

Main Herb: Dandelion
Dandelion is a naturally diuretic herb which aids the production of urine and increases positive liver function.

It will remove the water retained in your body as well as general toxines, targeting the 'bloated area' which is usually around your abdominals.
Dandelion combined with some herbs and spices will help you achieve a lighter and less bloated result, and taste exotic!
As always, for best results, please combine this tea with exercise. Crunches are a great exercise in combination with this tea.

Ingredients (for 3 cups of tea):
45 drops of Dandelion
5 Cardamom seeds
25 Cinnamon drops
8 Mint leaves
4 pieces of chopped Ginger
800ml of water
2tbsp of Pure Bee Honey (this is optional: add for a sweeter natural taste)

How to:
Add all ingredients to a pot and let boil for 8-10 minutes.
Then remove from hob and sieve through to a tea pot.
You can have up 2-4 cups of this tea per day.

Enjoy! x

The Benefits of Green Tea

What Are The Benefits of Green Tea? We know it's refreshing and delicious, welcomed any time of the year and needed in times of bloating or illness.

But exactly why does this simple infusion make us feel so good?

Let's find out!

Helps U Lose Weight

The Polyphenol which is naturally found in green will increase the levels of fat oxidation, and this in turn increases your metabolism. The rate in which your body turns food into calories is sped up noticeably.

Prevents Diabetes
By helping to regulate your glucose levels, it slows down the rise of sugar in your blood especially after a meal. This helps prevent saturated fat storing in your body, and thus high insulin illnesses.

Reduces Chances of Heart Disease

Research is being made into whether or not green tea as an effect on the lining of blood vessels. It is thought that it helps them stay calm and react more readily to changes in the blood pressure. Scientists may also prove that it helps prevent the formation of clots which are usually the main cause of heart attacks.

Helps Prevent Oesophageal Cancer

Green Tea may reduce the risk of oesophageal cancer. It is also known to kill cancer cells in general without damaging the healthy tissue around them.

Reduces Cholesterol

By reducing bad cholesterol in the blood, the ratio of good cholesterol versus bad cholesterol is improved.

Reduces Chances of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s

Research suggests that Green Tea delays the symptoms of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. It protects brain cells from dying and restores damaged ones.

Prevents Tooth Decay

A chemical antioxidant called 'catechin', which can be found in tea, has been suggested to destroy bacteria and viruses, which are usually the cause of dental and throat infections.

Helps Lower Blood Pressure

Studies show that regular consumption f green may lead of a lower risk of high blood pressure.

Helps Relax

Theanine is an amino acid naturally found in tea leaves. It is thought to create a relaxing and calming effect.

Has Anti-Viral and Anti-Bacterial Properties

The 'catechin' ingredient we spoke about earlier also acts as a strong antibacterial for the body cells, effectively treating a simple flu all the way to cancer. Consumption of Green Tea has been found to be a solution in avoiding the spread of viruses.

Improves Skin Quality

Green Tea does magic to your skin - or at least its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities do. They helps tone and refresh your pores, leaving you younger looking and with a spot-free face.
